On Thursday, 15th October 2026, Drogheda Credit Union with branches in Drogheda, East Meath, Dunleer, Trim and Slane will proudly stand with financial cooperatives around the world to celebrate International Credit Union (ICU) Day 2026.
In its 78th year of this global celebration, the relevance and impact of credit unions is immense. We are celebrating and thanking all our volunteers, members, staff and communities for making us who we are and weaving us into the culture of this island.
Since inception, the credit unions have operated and thrived on the ethos of “people helping people”. This is not just a slogan, but a catalyst for change and betterment of our communities be it Derry or Dublin, Castlebar or Cork, Ballina or Belfast. At Drogheda Credit Union, we endorse everything that we do, a loan, a mortgage, a bursary or a community grant, strives towards a more prosperous and equitable world.
The year gone has been a significant year, where credit unions have achieved a lot. Driven by our focus of community needs and the welfare of our communities, our presence has added to making a tangible difference where we are “Digital when you want it, in-person when you need it”.
Sarah Mc Gee, CEO Drogheda Credit Union said, “For 59 years, Drogheda Credit Union has been proudly supporting our communities, serving a strong membership of just over 63,000 individuals. In the past year, we have injected €38,500,000 in loans back into our local economy, fuelling the dreams and ambitions of our members. Our commitment to community is steadfast, as demonstrated by our donations and sponsorships of €70,000 and an additional €15,000 this month on student scholarships. Being part of the €8 Million in community support given out by credit unions on the island of Ireland, our success is measured by the wellbeing of our communities and the financial wellbeing of our members.”
