Yes. The term shares is used to describe your savings, one share is equal to €1 in savings. A credit union is a cooperative, which means it is owned by its members. As a member you have a “share” in the Credit Union, the more shares you have, the more you could receive when a surplus is recorded at the end of a financial year, and a dividend is paid out to members.
A nomination form allows members who are over 16 years of age to nominate a beneficiary to receive the property of their credit union accounts upon their death.
If you decide not to complete a nomination, the proceeds of your account will form part of your estate on your death and will be dealt with under the terms of your will, under the rules of intestacy if you make no will, or under small payment provision. We encourage all members to consider having a completed and up to date nominations form.
You can nominate anyone of your choice to receive the value of your shares/savings, up to a maximum value of €27,000. Any amount in excess of €27,000 will form part of your estate.
To complete the nomination process, you’ll need to fill out a nomination form, which must be signed and witnessed. Our staff members at Drogheda Credit Union are available to assist you with completing the relevant form and witnessing your signature. Simply ask in the office for assistance.
Yes, you can change the details of your nomination as often as you like. It’s important to note that the most recent nomination is considered the valid one. A member of our team will be happy to help with this.

Yes. Your Credit Union account has an IBAN and BIC like every account, you can set up a direct debit payment into your savings account just as you would any other bill or payee. When you are asked to put a reference on it, we recommend adding the word SHARES, sending your savings directly into your savings (shares) account with us. If you have a loan payment, you use the reference term LOAN and the money goes directly to pay down your loan with us. Members can have several direct debits set up going to their various credit union accounts.
Yes, you can. Once you have the IBAN and BIC of the account you want to send money to, you can do this from the CU Mobile App or call into our offices and a member of our team will help you.
